Dudhwa National Park
Dudhwa National Park is a scenic wildlife reserve in Uttar Pradesh, nestled along the India-Nepal border in the Terai region. Spread across dense Sal forests, grasslands, and wetlands fed by the Sharda and Suheli rivers, it forms part of the larger Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. The park is home to Bengal tigers, leopards, and elephants, and is especially known for its swamp deer (Barasingha), the largest population found anywhere in the world. It's also one of the few places outside Assam where the one-horned rhinoceros has been successfully reintroduced. Birdwatchers can spot over 400 species, including the rare Bengal florican. Visiting the Dudhwa National Park, not only gives an opportunity of visiting that park , but also serves as a convenient base to visit and explore two other excellent wildlife sanctuaries in the vicinity , which are the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, all located in the Himalayan foothills. Wildlife at Dudhwa
Dudhwa National Park is one of the finest protected wilderness areas in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh. The park is characterized by lush sal forests, extensive grasslands, marshes, and numerous lakes, creating an ideal habitat for a rich variety of wildlife. Dudhwa is especially famous for its healthy population of the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger and the rare One-Horned Rhinoceros, which was successfully reintroduced into the park. Visitors may also encounter Leopards, Asian Elephants, Swamp Deer (Barasingha), Sloth Bears, Wild Boars, Sambar, Spotted Deer (Chital), Hog Deer, Nilgai, and Jackals during their safari.
Dudhwa National Park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with more than 450 species of resident and migratory birds. Birdwatchers can spot Bengal Florican, Sarus Crane, Great Hornbill, Crested Serpent Eagle, Fishing Eagle, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Owls, Parakeets, and numerous species of waterfowl. During the winter season, migratory birds from Central Asia and Siberia flock to the wetlands, making Dudhwa an excellent destination for wildlife photography and nature lovers.

Visitors can experience the beauty of Dudhwa National Park through exciting Jeep Safaris conducted in designated tourism zones. The safaris are accompanied by experienced forest guides and naturalists who help visitors explore the diverse flora and fauna of the park. Jeep safaris offer excellent opportunities to spot Tigers, Rhinos, Elephants, Deer, and a wide variety of birds in their natural habitat.
Since the number of safari vehicles permitted inside the park is limited by the Forest Department, it is highly recommended to book the safari well in advance, especially during weekends and peak tourist months. Safari timings vary depending on the season and weather conditions.
Best Time to Visit
Dudhwa National Park remains open from 15th November to 15th June every year. The most pleasant time to visit is from November to March, when the weather is cool and comfortable, making wildlife sightings and birdwatching highly enjoyable. April to June offers better chances of spotting large mammals near water sources, although temperatures can be quite high.

By Train : Dudhwa Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Visitors can also reach Palia Kalan Railway Station, which is well connected to major cities in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow Railway Station offers broader connectivity with the rest of India.
By Road : Dudhwa National Park is well connected by road with Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, and Delhi. The nearest town is Palia Kalan, about 10 km from the park entrance, from where taxis and local transport are easily available.
